JAKARTA - Astronomers said, the Earth and other objects in the universe is made up of material from the star and dust space. However, where materials come from?
More recently, post-doctoral researcher at Cornell University in the United States, Ryan Lau, managed to get valuable clues. Earth is made up of dust explosions of stars or supernovae results.
Astronomers already know that supernovae produce large amounts of dust. However, they doubt whether the dust can survive the shock wave from the explosion of a star.
Lau and his colleagues succeeded in directly observing cosmic dust cloud coming from the supernova. It was confirmed that the dust is able to "survivor" of the enormity of the supernova.
"Our observations reveal the beginning of the dust produced by supernova 10,000 years ago were sufficient to produce 7,000 Earth," said Lau.
Lau and colleagues conducted observations with the Infrared Astronomy for stratospheric Observatory, an instrument belonging to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which is above the 747 jumbo jet.
"We use the observatory facilities fly, moving at a speed of 600 mph (965 km per hour) at an altitude of 45,000 feet (13 715 meters) to take a picture of a supernova remnant located at a distance of 27,000 light-years away from us," Lau said as quoted by Huffington Post , Sunday, March 22.
Lau said he was watching "two bright objects" around Sagittarius A East when it encountered a cloud of dust.
Through observations with infrared, Lau managed to confirm that 7-20 percent of the survival of space dust effect when the supernova shock wave occurs. Dust may survive because their compressed gas in the surrounding areas.
Lau research results published in the journal Science on Thursday (19/03/2015) last week.
