Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman said the biggest concern given the government through the state budget for the development of the agricultural sector, which reached more than Rp22 trillion in order to achieve food self-sufficiency and release the dependence on imported rice.
"The fund is exclusively for agriculture. We all want to national food rise, and certainly not willing to generation we rely on imports which eventually only pass suffering. Our country is independent and sovereign state, it also must be food sovereignty," said Minister of Agriculture to the press in Pekanbaru, Wednesday (4/3) night.
He said, with the allocation of that, the Ministry of Agriculture is committed to fulfill what is needed by the farmers. Even as a form of love for the farmers, he cut the cost of the hotel, business travel, office operations, as well as ceremonial activities to help farmers.
"It's the difference between the Ministry of Agriculture now, what is needed and requested by farmers, not what is programmed by the desire of the government. The pattern we have to change and the mindset of the lives of the farmers also must change," he said.
For four months after taking office as Minister of Agriculture, said Arman, he has taken a number of strategic policy, one tractor supply 10,000 units distributed throughout Indonesia.
"It's the first time since Indonesia's independence," he said.
Including the matter of policies banning the import of rice, Arman confirms the seriousness of the farmers, the domestic rice production enough without having to import from other countries. If imports flooded Indonesia, the farmers could bankrupt the total.
