Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said PT Pertamina (Persero) could manage the Mahakam block in East Kalimantan after the contract with Total E & P Indonesia in 2017 ended.

The statement was made when asked if after receiving the proposals of Pertamina, the government was able to continue seeing SOE Mahakam management after 2017.
According Widhyawan, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources has received a proposal Sudirman Said Pertamina to manage the Mahakam post-2017 on Monday (2/3). "From the proposal, said earlier could manage the Mahakam," he said.
He also expressed readiness was reflected in the technical and financial side of the proposals submitted Pertamina.
Pertamina, he added, expressed readiness to continue the production of the Mahakam and also will prepare funding.
"In the proposal, Pertamina will conduct exploration activities in the Mahakam block to add to its reserves," he said. Pertamina also said it will invite all employees of the total post-2017.
Still studied
Currently, according Widhyawan government is currently reviewing proposals that Pertamina. "However, the government's intention is clear, give to Pertamina," he said.
The government, he added, could not grant the request total to remain the operator in a transitional period of five years in the period 2017-2022.
According to him, the government will decide on the continuation of the Mahakam to Pertamina's management in the near future. "Hopefully this March," he said.
Pertamina is likely to have the Mahakam contract to 30 years, since after the contract expired in 2017 the status of the Mahakam block will be the same as the new block.
Widhyawan also said, the government handed over to Pertamina whether to invite back Total or not. "This should be discussed with a total of now," he said.
