SEOUL, SAN FRANCISCO, IFN --- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. using homemade chips for menyawai Galaxy S5 S6 is not as its predecessor. This news is a blow to US-chip supplier, Qualcomm Inc.
Samsung not only use mobile processor Exynos homemade, but also decided to rely on its own semiconductor business including modem and integrated circuit chip, said consultancy based in Ottawa, Chipworks, through a posting dated April 2.
Samsung will rely Galaxy S6 to rake in more profits after a big disappointment in 2014. Sales of such Exynos chip is expected to help rising corporate earnings, analysts said.
Galaxy S6 will be coupled with a modem chip Shannon, said the US telecommunications company, AT & T, on its website.
"Obviously they use the Shannon to the modem AT & T who tried them all Samsung's sales of silicon," said Jim McGregor, an analyst at Tirias Research.
Jan. Qualcomm has revealed that its loyal customers refuse to use their latest Snapdragon processor for a new generation of smart phones. And is believed to be the Galaxy S6. Not clear if Samsung also will no longer use a modem chip made by Qualcomm.
Qualcomm is the industry's major players LTE, which is the most advanced technology modelm, but Samsung, Intel, MediaTek and other developing its own products.
