JAKARTA, IFN - Minister of Marine and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti, also explained that the two regions in Indonesia, which has the potential as a granary national seaweed, namely East Sumba and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Minapolitan region seaweed cultivation in East Sumba reach rank category A. This means that the region has successfully integrated business system from upstream to downstream system includes production, processing and marketing supported by adequate infrastructure such as transportation and production facilities.
According to Susi, development Minapolitan seaweed cultivation in East Sumba can mobilize communities in the region's economy and improving welfare.
He also hopes there will be more centers emergence seaweed farming in other eastern Indonesia. "It can be used as an example of other areas that have potential similar to that achieved by East Sumba," she said.
He reveals the potential of seaweed farming land in East Sumba is very broad, reaching 15069.4 hectares (ha). In addition, the weather in the area also supports for cultivation of seaweed, so it has a chance to be developed as a commodity in the regions.
"On this basis, the government established East Sumba as one Minapolitan based aquaculture with seaweed leading commodity," she added.
Furthermore Susi explained, in Minapolitan seaweed is divided into three zones in it. The first zone is the zone is a zone that manufacturers produce seaweed seeds which will then be cultivated until ready to harvest.
The second zone is the zone of economic institutions. This zone makes cooperation with the zone of purchase seaweed production and provide the means of production, as well as control and supervision on the way farming is done by farmers in the zone.
As for the three zones are processing industrial zone. Here is the place to buy seaweed collected from two zones corresponding agreed standards. This zone is also tasked to cultivate seaweed obtained from the previous zone.
